Distribution of Uchinanchu Worldwide

 1990年（明治33）、移民の父といわれる当山久三の熱意と努力により、沖縄からの最初の海外移民26人がハワイに到着しました。あれから1世紀が経過し現在、海外で暮らすウチナーンチュの数は36万人を超えているといわれています。
  海外に渡ったウチナーンチュたちは、持ち前の明るさで多くの困難を乗り越え、それぞれ国の発展に尽くし、さらに沖縄県との交流にも大きく貢献しています。

From the efforts of Kyuzo Toyama, called the “father of immigration”, 26 immigrants from Okinawa arrived in Hawaii in 1900. 100 years later, it is said that there are over 360,000 Uchinanchu all across the world.
The Uchinanchu who immigrated overseas utilized their inherent cheerfulness to overcome many difficulties, contributed to the development of their adoptive countries, and have also maintained solid ties with Okinawa Prefecture.
